Christine Harris named Woodbury Ballet’s new Artistic Director as Randyl Errica retires

Christine Harris has been named the new Artistic Director of Woodbury Ballet effective September 2022. Harris takes the helm from Randyl Errica, who plans to retire from directing Woodbury Ballet and focus on her work as Director of the Connecticut Classics, a ballet competition and scholarship program.

“I am honored that Randy chose me to lead Woodbury Ballet as the new Artistic Director,” says Ms. Harris. “It is exciting to look back at the rich history of the organization while also planning for the future. I’m considering several ways to expand the programming that is offered. I want to continue to offer both serious training to future dancers and to develop more quality classes for the more casual dancer. Dance is for everyone; from the 2-year-old in a tutu to the adult who wants to dance for fun. The future looks bright!“

Errica served as the Founder and Artistic Director of Woodbury Ballet for 42 years and
trained generations of ballet students, with many becoming professional dancers. Under her direction, Woodbury Ballet has performed in top venues throughout New England. She directed and produced an annual Nutcracker at the Palace Theater in Waterbury every year since 2009.

The Woodbury Academy opened in 1979 in Woodbury, Connecticut in the former Middle Quarter Mall in Woodbury. The program was designed to provide training to serious students who wished to pursue a professional career or attend top dance programs in a college setting. Students travel from all over Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts to attend the school.

In 2020, Woodbury Ballet moved to the Fulkerson Arts Center at the former Chase Collegiate Campus in Waterbury (now the ACES at Chase Magnet School). Woodbury Ballet will continue to provide enrichment classes to the students of ACES at Chase while also continuing its tradition of training classical dancers under the direction of Ms. Harris.

Christine Harris’ experience as a classical ballet instructor and arts administrator offer her a wealth of knowledge to lead Woodbury Ballet into the future. She was a professional dancer on both the East and West Coast and served as the Associate Director of Brass City Ballet for 22 years. She currently divides her time between Woodbury Ballet and Pilobolus, a World-Renowned modern dance company based in Washington, CT.

“I was lucky to have a career I loved but it is time for me to pass the torch to the younger generation,” Errica stated. “Christine Harris is an extremely capable and talented individual, who plans to run the school with the same dedication to training and attention to excellence. I am confident she will succeed.”
